How can pressure sores beneath dentures be treated?
Pressure sores beneath dentures can be painful and may impair oral health. Regular denture cleaning and good oral hygiene are essential. Pain-relieving ointments such as RECESSAN® or antiseptic mouthwashes can help alleviate the pain. If you experience persistent discomfort or severe pain, you should consult your dentist to allow for any necessary adjustments to the denture 3.
Are oral aphthae contagious?
No, aphthae are not contagious. These painful, inflammatory ulcers of the oral mucosa are not caused by bacteria or viruses and are therefore not contagious. Although the exact cause of aphthae is not fully understood, stress, certain foods or a weakened immune system can contribute to their development. Good oral hygiene is particularly important to promote healing.2
How can gum inflammation under dentures be treated?
Inflammation of the gums under a denture is often caused by pressure sores or inadequate hygiene. Anti-inflammatory mouthwashes and careful cleaning of the denture can alleviate acute symptoms. However, for long-term improvement, a visit to your dentist is important to address the underlying causes and ensure an optimal fit of the denture.3
How often can I use RECESSAN®?
RECESSAN® may be used 3 to 6 times daily to manage acute symptoms. Apply a pea-sized amount of the ointment directly to the painful area. If you have questions about the application or experience persistent pain, it is recommended that you consult your dentist.
